Air Passenger Duty to increase in November

premium planeThe UK government plans to double the Air Passenger Duty (APD) and this could mean the end of Premium Economy cabins.

The new taxes will put the Premium Economy seats on the same level as Business and First Class.

Families of four or five  in search for extra legroom for a long haul flight to the US will have to pay extra money for the privilege, similar to the cost for a business flight.

The APD should increase from November 2009 and  for flights between 0-2000 miles the new rates will be £22. For passengers flying more than 6000 miles the tax will be £110.

Flight operators as well as unsatisfied passengers can sign an online petition to protest against the APD increase.
