Air India to join Star Alliance

For those of you that have not heard yet, Air India has been invited to team up with Star Alliance. Not only have they been invited, but they have already signed the agreement. Right now, Air India is trying to integrate into Star Alliance, which is something that could take up to 18 months or more. This all depends on the airline’s readiness.

There is, of course, good news and bad news for Air India. The bad news is the fact that they are going to have to raise their standards of product, as well as their level of service, to the levels that are stipulated by Star Alliance. For anyone that flies with Air India, that is a good thing.

Things like premium flights will, of course, be improved and more luxurious.

Although they are going to have to pick up on the services that they provide, the good news is that they will get a lot of benefits from being with Star Alliance. This includes code sharing and increased traffic volume. With the increase in traffic, you can bet that Air India will be looking at increased revenues as well. Last, but not least, the fliers of Air India are going to enjoy reduced ticket prices. All of this could not come at a better time for Air India, who has been having problems since the economy started to go down for all of the airline industry. This could account to why they were so quick to sign the agreement that Star Alliance gave them. Only time will tell if this was the right move, but right now, it’s all looking great for Air India.

Big news as Star Alliance is a major consortium of airlines. Given the volume of flights Air India is operating this sounds like a major deal.
