British Airways premium flights drop
Conditions in the airline business have not been getting any better over the past few months. Despite doing what it can to keep passengers using their services, British Airways is in a big downward spin. According to British Airways, the total amount of passengers that they received has dropped by over 10 percent. In fact, premium traffic dropped by 20 percent in February from earlier this year. Not only that, but non premium traffic was down 5 percent as well.
Some people think that the lack of customers could be because of other budget carriers. Some other companies like Ryanair and easyJet, which are both budget carriers, have been reporting increases in the number of people they have flying with them. However, British Airways treasurer, George Stinnes, said that he does not feel like they are losing any market share to the low cost carriers.
British Airways feels like the data that has come out about the number of customers they have is distorted. That is because the figures are being compared to last year’s stats. They feel that this is not accurate, because in February of 2008, there was an extra day due to the leap year. In addition to that, south east England had a lot of disrupted traffic last month due to a lot of snowfall.
The routes for British Airways that have been affected the most are the routes to the Asia Pacific region. The passenger traffic from this area is down 19 percent. Of course, this could be due to the new emigration laws that the UK now has in affect as well
